In honor of.....
Scheuermann's disease can be a painful, life-limiting disease. This is not a disease that "you can grow out of", that "goes away on its own", or "is only an adolescent disease", as many doctors unfamiliar with the rare disease will tell you.
Scheuermann's can be life-threatening as the curvature can impact a person's heart, lungs, and virtually all vital organs. In addition, the severe long-term chronic pain and debilitating secondary health problems can lead to bouts of depression.
Unfortunately over the years, we have been notified when a member of our loving, wonderful Scheuermann's community has passed away (far too many times) from this disease. We were not sure what to do to honor their memories, but we know now.
We have created this "In honor of...." section of the website to bring attention to the members of the Scheuermann's community who have passed away far too soon. Please keep them in your prayers, and hope for strength and grace to fill the loved ones of each of these beautiful souls.

The Scheuermann's Disease Fund has had a number of Memorial Donations over the years. These donations are on behalf of loved ones who have passed due to complications from Scheuermann's disease.
We want to do more to help these families. We have determined that if we can help those grieving the loss of a loved one in any way, then it is our duty to do so. Therefore, we will be posting, at the request of the family, a fitting, loving tribute to the loved one lost, to our Social Media as well as our website. May we someday find a cure for this terrible, rare spinal disease.

Please accept this donation from our funeral home in honor of a very special young man we were able to are for, Mr. Christopher Dant, who passed at the end of March. Chris was only 32 years old and was in constant pain from his surgeries due to his battles with Scheuermann's disease and Chiari Malformation. Chris suffered greatly and has finally been able to find peace. By request of the family, we would like to donate $1,674.00 towards your research in the hopes that relief may be given to those who are struggling to find their way out of darkness.

John Michael Hall unexpectedly passed away on May 22, 2023 at the age of 26. He was a graduate of Starr’s Mill High School in Fayette County, GA where he won state level trophies for swimming and water polo. He went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Economics and as a proud member of Sigma Nu. Post graduation, he found passion in flight and earned multiple certifications in piloting in both Connecticut and Georgia. He loved instruction and passing on his own passion to others.
He was diagnosed with Scheuermann’s Kyphosis in his early teen years and while he channeled Mark Spitz energy in his swim training, he did eventually decide to have spinal fusion at the age of 20 on May 22, 2017. It was a difficult decision due to the impact it would have on his athleticism but he felt strongly that it was worth it. Post recovery, he returned to life as normal as possible, although the pain remained and perhaps intensified. That said, he still enjoyed traveling, hiking, playing pickleball with his friends, football and wrestling with his niece and nephew and even occasionally skiing.
Despite living a full and loving life, the pain was a daily/hourly mountain to climb that we will never understand. We know he is now at peace, pain free and watching over us all as we navigate life without his contagious sense of humor and megawatt smile.
